Home Worship
For right now, staying home is the way we love our neighbor. Think about it: you may be staying home for your own health, but you also can not be a carrier to others you might come in contact with. But being isolated from human contact for days on end gets very lonely. We don’t know how long we will be sequestered in our homes, so please be in prayer for those who live alone. Remember also those who do not have a home or safe haven. Take this time to grow in your trust of God and not be anxious.
In John 14:27 Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give unto you, not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
This is not live-streamed worship, happening in real time as you are at home, but it is a way we can bind together through worship while we must stay apart physically. Everything posted here in Home Worship has been compiled by Highland Park laity and staff, with the hope of helping you feel closer to one another, and helping you draw closer to Almighty God, who is always with us.
May God bless you and keep you.
Now, let’s worship together.

Matthew 28:1-10 (NIV)
After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.
There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.
The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”
So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”

A Closing Thought - A Litany for This Easter
One: Because people are suffering from the COVID-19 virus, it doesn’t feel like Easter. But healthcare workers are tirelessly caring for the sick. We are seeing Easter at work.
All: Lord of love, keep leading us to be an Easter people.
One: Because people are losing their jobs and businesses, it doesn’t feel like Easter. But neighbors are offering help and hope for one another. We are seeing Easter at work.
All: Lord of love, keep leading us to be an Easter people.
One: Because we are isolated and unable to offer a handshake or a hug, it doesn’t feel like Easter. But we are making phone calls and finding other ways to reach out. We are seeing Easter at work.
All: Lord of love, keep leading us to be an Easter people.
One: Because people continue to struggle with poverty, oppression, and pain, it doesn’t feel like Easter. But despite this pandemic, people are finding new ways to be the hands and feet of God. We are seeing Easter at work.
All: Lord of love, keep leading us to be an Easter people.
One: Because our church sanctuaries are empty, it doesn’t feel like Easter. But we hold on to the hope that our day of resurrection will come, because nothing can separate us from God’s love. We will see Easter at work.
All: Lord of love, keep leading us to be an Easter people.

Benediction
And now, may the God of peace,
who brought back again from the dead our Lord Jesus,
equip you with all you need for doing his will.
May he produce in you,
through the power of Jesus Christ,
all this is pleasing to him.
To him be glory forever and ever. Amen.
(based on Hebrews 13)

A note to the HPUMC Family: Thank you for your many kindnesses and love and support during the time of my mother's passing. We felt such love and comfort from our church and I know we could not have gotten through this time without each of you. We covet your continued love and prayer as we learn to navigate our new normal. We look forward to being back together in our post-COVID world. Much love, Elizabeth Poston and Famly
