Christmas at Highland Park
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! This year at Highland Park you will have several ways to make your Christmas the best so far. Here’s a calendar of events and ways for you and your family to celebrate the birth of Jesus.
All Month– Add an ornament to the Highland Park Family Christmas tree. There’s a tree in the narthex, and we are asking everyone to add an ornament that means something to their family. This tree will be special because it will be ours.
All Month– Where are the Wise Men? You’ll notice the Wise Men (“Magi”) are not on the manger scene. They are traveling “from afar.” They are in three places in the church buildings. Each week they will get closer and closer to the manger. See if you can discover where they are (do not disturb them– they are on an important journey!). They should arrive at the manger on December 31.
All Month– Each Sunday we will add another part to the manger scene in the front of the church, unfolding the story of Jesus’s birth bit by bit for our children.
December 3– 9 and 11 o’clock– Hanging of the Greens Service. Ever wonder what all the things in the sanctuary mean? Why do we hang greenery, hang wreaths, light special candles, put up a Chrismon tree? This service will explain and help us celebrate the season.
December 10– 9 and 11 o’clock– In our worship services we will be preparing the way for Christ to be born anew in our hearts and lives.
December 15– Christmas Caroling!!! We will be caroling at some of the places we served on Hands and Feet Day. Meet at the church at 5:30, wear your Christmas sweater, board the bus, and join us. We will go out for supper afterwards.
December 17– 11 o’clock– The choir will be presenting their Christmas special. It will be a day filled with wonderful music!
December 24– 9 and 11 o’clock– All our favorite Christmas carols and hymns and the stories behind them.
December 24– 6 pm- Christmas Eve Candlelight and Communion Service. One of the most meaningful services of the year. Bring your family and friends to hear again the wonderful story of the birth of Jesus.
December 25– 10 am– Christmas Day Service– this will be our sixth year of having a service on Christmas morning. Come dressed as you are, bring your favorite gift, and start the day by focusing on Jesus, the reason for the season!
December 31– 9 and 11 o’clock– The Wise Men finally make it to Bethlehem! We will celebrate Epiphany, thank God for 2017, and eagerly look forward to 2018.
