Call to Worship
Know that the LORD is God.
God made us; we belong to the Lord. We are God’s people,
the sheep of his own pasture.
Enter his gates with thanks; enter his courtyards with praise!
The LORD is good. God’s loyal love lasts forever;
his faithfulness lasts generation after generation.

Hymn of Promise
Natalie Sleeth In the bulb there is a flower; In the seed, an apple tree; In cocoons, a hidden promise: butterflies will soon be free! In the cold and snow of winter There's a spring that waits to be, Unrevealed until its season, Something God alone can see. There's a song in every silence, Seeking word and melody; There's a dawn in every darkness, bringing hope to you and me. From the past will come the future; what it holds, a mystery, Unrevealed until its season, Something God alone can see. In our end is our beginning; In our time, infinity; In our doubt there is believing; In our life, eternity, In our death, a resurrection; At the last, a victory, Unrevealed until its season, Something God alone can see. |

Scripture John 11:1-45
But some of them said, “Could not he who opened the eyes of the blind man have kept this man from dying?”
Jesus, once more deeply moved, came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance. “Take away the stone,” he said.
“But, Lord,” said Martha, the sister of the dead man, “by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days.”
Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?”
So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me.”
When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to them, “Take off the grave clothes and let him go.”

Prayers of the People |
At this time, we will offer up our own prayers.
We first offer praise and thanksgiving to God for His unfailing love and His tender mercies. We thank Him for His steadfast love and provision…………..
We share our own worries and concerns, Lord, those things which burden our own hearts …..
We pray for others---those who are sick, lonely, and afraid.
We pray for medical professionals, Lord--the medical researchers, the first responders, and all those who are working tirelessly to find solutions and medical relief and answers.
We pray for our community leaders who are working so hard to protect our well-being and minimize the damage to our nation and to people around the globe as well.
We pray for Your Guidance and Peace, Lord, for patience and temperance in this time of duress.
Let us act and react to things as You would have us to do,
in Jesus' name,
Amen.

I Am Not Alone by Kari Jobe
When I walk through deep waters I know that You will be with me When I'm standing in the fire I will not be overcome Through the valley of the shadow I will not fear I am not alone I am not alone You will go before me You will never leave me In the midst of deep sorrow I see Your light is breaking through The dark of night will not overtake me I am pressing into You Lord, You fight my every battle Oh, and I will not fear I am not alone I am not alone You will go before me You will never leave me You amaze me Redeem me You call me as Your own You amaze me Redeem me You call me as Your own You're my strength You're my defender You're my refuge in the storm Through these trials You've always been faithful You bring healing to my soul I am not alone I am not alone You will go before me You will never leave me |
A Closing Thought
The People Stayed Home
And the people stayed home.
And read books, and listened,
And rested, and exercised,
And made art, and played games,
And learned new ways of being, and were still.
And listened more deeply.
Some meditated, some prayed, some danced. Some met their shadows.
And the people began to think differently.
And the people healed.
And, in the absence of people living in ignorant, dangerous, mindless, and heartless ways, the earth began to heal.
And when the danger passed, and the people joined together again, they grieved their losses, and made new choices, and dreamed new images, and created new ways to live and heal the earth fully, as they had been healed.

Announcements
Although Highland Park Church is not having live worship at the moment, staff members are in their offices each week day. We ask that you not come to the building physically, but we welcome and encourage you to call (843/662-1233) or email if you have any need or business with the church.
For now, no groups, classes, and committees are meeting in person. Several are meeting online using easy-to-use formats like GoTo Meeting and Zoom and FaceTime. Please contact your leaders if you have not heard from them. Please keep in touch and give us your feedback as we discover alternative ways to worship together.
May all be well.
If you have a pastoral emergency, Pastor Mike is available through church phone, personal phone, and this email: mike.henderson@hpumc.net
