Home Worship
For right now, staying home is the way we love our neighbor. Think about it: you may be staying home for your own health, but you also can not be a carrier to others you might come in contact with. But being isolated from human contact for days on end gets very lonely. We don’t know how long we will be sequestered in our homes, so please be in prayer for those who live alone. Remember also those who do not have a home or safe haven. Take this time to grow in your trust of God and not be anxious.
In John 14:27 Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give unto you, not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
This is not live-streamed worship, happening in real time as you are at home, but it is a way we can bind together through worship while we must stay apart physically. Everything posted here in Home Worship has been compiled by Highland Park laity and staff, with the hope of helping you feel closer to one another, and helping you draw closer to Almighty God, who is always with us.
May God bless you and keep you.
Now, let’s worship together.

Call to Worship
Jesus the Good Shepherd calls our names to come and follow him.
His voice, speaking our names, draws us to him.
We follow without fear, for the shepherd cares for us.
Our hearts rejoice and we can place our trust in the Good Shepherd.
Come, let us enter the gate with thanksgiving!
Let us go forth confidently with songs of praise!
AMEN.

A Closing Thought - God Knows Your Name, by Michael Youssef
The words we use to describe other people can either hurt or encourage them. There was a teacher who asked her students to share what they wanted to be when they grew up. For the most part, the students gave the usual responses—doctor, lawyer, policeman, nurse, pilot, and firefighter. Then the teacher asked Billy. He said, "I want to be possible."
"Possible?" she asked.
"Yes," he replied, "because my mom tells me all the time that I'm impossible. So I want to grow up to be possible."
As believers, we are adopted into the Kingdom of God. We are given a new identity, a new name, and a life filled with possibility. We are called the children of God. No matter what our past is and regardless of our mistakes, the Lord knows our names and desires our worship and praise.
As a son or daughter of the King of kings, there are many reasons why we should praise Him. He does not change. He is mightier than any problem we might face. He is all-wise and loving. He will never leave us. He is our hope. So, whether we like the name on our birth certificate or the nicknames we have been given by those who know us, we can find joy in knowing that we are called by God and that our names are written on the palms of His hands (see Isaiah 49:16).
God of the universe, You know my name! Thank You for Your love and for my identity in You. Thank You for the abundant inheritance You give Your children. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
"He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out" (John 10:3).

Benediction
Come through Jesus, the gate of joy and hope.
Move into the world that needs to hear the words of peace.
Tell everyone you meet that Jesus is calling their name.
And bring everyone good news of Christ’s abundant love for them.
AMEN.

Announcements
Thanks to Robin Horne for assisting in today's service.
ATTENTION GRADUATES (AND PARENTS OF GRADUATES!) We are proud of you and your accomplishments and would like to celebrate in two ways with you. First, we would like to have a slide show in worship online on Sunday, May 17. Then, when we meet together in person for worship, we would like to recognize you in person. Please email your name, 3 photos of you from different times in your life, where you are graduating from, and what you plan to do next to Charlotte Messier by May 11. Thanks!
Bishop Holston has requested that we continue with our online worship meetings and no in-person gatherings through May 20. You may read his statement here. Although Highland Park Church is not having live worship at the moment, staff members are in their offices each week day. We ask that you not come to the building physically, but we welcome and encourage you to call (843/662-1233) or email if you have any need or business with the church.
For now, no groups, classes, or committees are meeting in person. Several are meeting online using easy-to-use formats like GoTo Meeting and Zoom and FaceTime. Please contact your leaders if you have not heard from them. Please keep in touch and give us your feedback as we discover alternative ways to worship, learn, and serve together. May all be well.
Scripture Lessons for next week: Acts 7:55-60; Psalm 31:1-5, 15-16; 1 Peter 2:2-10; John 14:1-14
RightNow media at-home study for the month of May: Overcoming Anxiety During COVID 19. Anxiety can feel like a constricting snake slowly tightening around us until it is difficult to breathe. In recent weeks, the anxiety surrounding the rapid spread of the COVID-19 virus has a hold on the whole world as people die, economies decline, and our lives change right before our eyes.
In this four-part series, Jonathan Pokluda speaks words of comfort and wisdom, to help Christians navigate the areas of life COVID-19 is affecting. During this series you'll be encouraged in how to overcome anxiety in these troubling days and explore ways you can remain faithful to God and to others. If you are not a part of RightNow, please email Andi and she will send you an invitation. It is free for the Highland Park Church family.
If you have a pastoral emergency, Pastor Mike is available through church phone, personal phone, and this email.
