Today's Scripture
Genesis 21:22-34
Common English BibleAbraham’s treaty with the Philistines22 At that time Abimelech, and Phicol commander of his forces, said to Abraham, “God is with you in everything that you do. 23 So give me your word under God that you won’t cheat me, my children, or my descendants. Just as I have treated you fairly, so you must treat me and the land in which you are an immigrant.”
24 Abraham said, “I give you my word.” 25 Then Abraham complained to Abimelech about a well that Abimelech’s servants had seized.
26 Abimelech said, “I don’t know who has done this, and you didn’t tell me. I didn’t even hear about it until today.” 27 Abraham took flocks and cattle, gave them to Abimelech, and the two of them drew up a treaty.[a] 28 Abraham set aside, by themselves, seven female lambs from the flock. 29 So Abimelech said to Abraham, “What are these seven lambs you’ve set apart?”
30 Abraham said, “These seven lambs that you take from me will attest that I dug this well.” 31 Therefore, the name of that place is Beer-sheba[b] because there they gave each other their word. 32 After they drew up a treaty[c] at Beer-sheba, Abimelech, and Phicol commander of his forces, returned to the land of the Philistines. 33 Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beer-sheba, and he worshipped there in the name of the Lord, El Olam.[d] 34 Abraham lived as an immigrant in the Philistines’ land for a long time

The All-Church Wednesday Tailgate
Who…The All-Church Tailgate is for people of all ages. Come alone or with your family & close friends & meet new friends, your Sunday School class and small group here.
What… The All-Church Tailgate is an opportunity to for us to come together,
eat our dinner that we bring to eat for ourselves, hang out, and catch up…all in a safe place with lots of space to spread out!
Where…Highland Park UMC back parking lot. Every other parking space will
be blocked in order to social distance while a center section will be open to
walk around and chat with friends and meet new ones! Just park in an open
space, drop the tailgate or set up your lawn chairs and break out the dinner that you brought!
When…Beginning Wednesday, September 9 @ 6pm. We will tailgate each
Wednesday, weather permitting, until we are able to begin Wednesday night programming in our new facility!
Why…This is a difficult season to meet for fellowship with loved ones and
friends or to meet new friends. Our All-Church Tailgate will give us a regular
time and place to do just that…all in a safe space and manner.
We hope to see you on Wednesdays to hang out together and celebrate
God’s goodness…who He is & what He’s done and is doing here at Highland Park!
Construction Update
In spite of the weather, COVID-19, and many other things, the new facilities are progressing! If you have not had the opportunity to stop by the church office for a tour, please call us and we’ll be glad to schedule one. Plans were to have our Consecration of the new facilities on September 13. However, things have not quite completed so that will have to wait for a little while longer.
The new Danner Garden and Courtyard is coming along, too. When completed it will be a place where people can pray, meditate, have outdoor services, and be in God’s presence. There will be some brick paved areas, along with plants and shrubs. The pavers currently being installed are the ones from the “Pathway to Life” that ran between the church and the ATTIC Youth House. There is room for more engraved pavers in memory of honor of loved ones. If you are interested in placing one there, please contact the church office.
And thanks to the contributions of many people, the port-cochere for the front of the church is well underway! It will not only define the front of the church, but will provide a beautiful and welcoming front for the facility. The sidewalks and parking areas are being constructed now, so everyone is asked to park in the Rutledge Avenue parking lot and to enter the sanctuary through the narthex doors on that side for the next couple of weeks.
